Maximum-salaried Los Angeles Lakers center Anthony Davis apparently went through his entire postgame press conference last night without knowing that All-NBA small forward LeBron James had indicated he was considering retirement.

Dave McMenamin of ESPN told Davis what had been said, and registered surprise upon hearing the news. Following that revelation, however, Davis informed McMenamin that James revealed he might be retired by the 2024 Summer Olympics, in which The Brow is considering competing (Davis would be 31 at that point).

Nine years before reuniting on your Los Angeles Lakers, Davis and James were first teammates on the 2012 gold medalist Olympic men's basketball team. Davis has not made an appearance with Team USA Basketball since 2014, when he netted another gold medal during the World Cup. James has won two Olympic gold medals (and one bronze, but let's just not talk about that). 2012 marked his final appearance for Team USA Basketball.

All this retirement chatter comes as something of a surprise, as James and Davis are both under contract through next season. James has a $50.7 million player option for 2024-25, his year-40 season.
