Lakers: LeBron James Health Update Ahead Of Possible Record-Setting Thunder Game
It looks like history may just have to wait.
19-time All-Star Los Angeles Lakers power forward LeBron James breaking 19-time All-Star Los Angeles Lakers center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's 39-year title as the NBA's all-time regular season scoring champ has been the only actually exciting element of LA's 2022-23 season thus far.
Los Angeles has been just a bit outside of the Western Conference's play-in tournament bracket almost all season. It's currently 13th, at 25-29, just a half-game worse by record than tonight's opponent, the 25-28 Oklahoma City Thunder, who, unlike the Lakers, are actually trying to lose.
There was some excitement over the weekend when it looked like LA might be able to trade for flaky team destroyer Kyrie Irving, but he (mercifully) was dealt to the Dallas Mavericks instead. Unless the Lakers make a different, major move during this trade deadline countdown (we have two days left), they may very well miss the postseason.
So in the mean time, this regular season record might very well be the peak moment of the year for Laker Nation. Kareem's mark, 38,387 points, was achieved with only one three-pointer (no, seriously), during an era when long range shooting wasn't exactly encouraged for centers.
On the league's latest injury report, James is listed as questionable due to left ankle soreness for tonight. The 38-year-old did not practice with LA yesterday, in part to manage the injury.
Anthony Davis (right foot stress injury) and Austin Reaves (left hamstring strain) are both probable to play. This would be Reaves's first game back for LA since January 4th.
