So it turns out Los Angeles Lakers All-Star small forward LeBron James played through a torn tendon in his right foot throughout the playoffs after all, and could need surgery on the foot this summer, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.

James had previously revealed that he had recuperated enough from the injury to play through the rest of the regular season and postseason. Although two doctors he consulted with said he would need season-ending surgery back in March, but a third, the "LeBron James of feet," opined that he would be fine to play through it.

He did look somewhat hobbled during the playoffs, lacking his typical lift and athleticism. All told, he still submitted a stellar two-way performance, propelling Los Angeles all the way to the Western Conference Finals, where the club lost in a clean sweep to the Denver Nuggets. Afterwards, he revealed to journalists that he was contemplating retirement after 20 seasons.

Sources inform Charania that a projected recovery time for the 6'9" combo forward is anticipated to run two months, meaning James should still be back in time for the start of the 2023-24 season, should he want to be.
