Houston Texans rookie quarterback sensation CJ Stroud made plenty of headlines on the field last Sunday, but what he had to say about your Los Angeles Lakers off the field may be even more shocking.

This year's No. 2 overall pick in the NFL draft out of Ohio State dropped plenty of great soundbites, including a shoutout to the purple and gold about his favorite NBA team.

Stroud mentioned the Lakers as part of a larger conversation around a dislike for losing games as a football player.

He certainly did his part against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 4 after his two-touchdown performance with over 300 yards passing in a rousing 30-6 home victory.

The win marked the first at NRG Stadium for the franchise since 2021 and Stroud boldly claimed that Houston should now be proud to rep Texans gear for as long as he's their quarterback.

Pressure from doubters circled Stroud in the pre-draft process after he scored rather poorly on a draft combine test, but the Texans knew their eventual Deshaun Watson replacement just had to be him.

The former Buckeye has played up to his draft pedigree after setting the new NFL record for pass attempts without an interception to start his career.

What makes the accomplishment even more impressive is the fact that Stroud is playing this well with most of his offensive line injured.

With second and even third-string linemen protecting him, the Texans' new signal caller continues to amaze him at every turn and in his media appearances.

Houston's slippage to the No. 2 pick last year paid off and they might now have their new franchise savior in the former Ohio State product.

The Laker fan and phenomenal QB will look to continue this momentum to become Houston's next great hope much like James did for Cleveland over two decades ago.
