Your Los Angeles Lakers celebrated maximum-salaried big man Anthony Davis' 30th birthday with a throwback cake, featuring a picture of a pre-growth spurt AD.

His teammates then proceeded to serenade him with a spirited birthday song. Davis opted not to blow out the candles by breath, instead trying to wave the flames off with his hands, then putting one out between his thumb and forefinger.

His modest game against the Toronto Raptors aside, Davis has enjoyed quite a run of late with All-Star small forward LeBron James sidelined. In his five healthy games since James went down, Davis is averaging 28.6 points on .556/.400/.796 shooting splits, 12.6 rebounds, 3.0 blocks and 2.8 dimes a night.

The big drawback with Davis, across most of his Lakers seasons, has been health. Davis has missed an average of 27.5 games a year due to one malady or another, including 2022-23.

And this season, the birthday boy's availability game-to-game has been tenuous basically all year, first due to a sore lower back and now due to a right foot stress injury from which he has ostensibly much recovered. It feels like he winces every other time he lands after a dunk or rebound. When he's on, he's terrific. At 33-34 and without James for at least two more weeks, Los Angeles will need him to maintain his health down the season's home stretch.
