Orlando Magic Guard Cole Anthony Doing 'Great Job,' Says Jamahl Mosley

Cole Anthony does many things out on the court that help the Magic, and some that often go unnoticed by fans.

When the Orlando Magic drafted Cole Anthony with the 15th pick of the 2020 draft, the team knew that there was some work that needed to be done. While he did average 18.5 points per game at North Carolina, his percentages left a lot to be desired.

But since Anthony's rookie year, his shooting percentages have increased dramatically. His three point percentage has risen from 33 to 36 percent, but more importantly, his percentage from the field as a whole has gone from an abysmal 39 percent to an above average 45 percent at the point guard spot.

His improved shooting, along with his smart decision making and above average on-ball defense at the point guard position could make Anthony one of the more promising young guards in the league going into this season. Magic head coach Jamahl Mosley talked more about the improvements that Anthony has made and the impact that he can have on the court.

"I think Cole has done a great job," Mosley said. "His decision making, his playmaking, and we don't even talk about how he's done a great job of defending the ball. He's one of the guys picking up full court, changing the defense starting it out full court to make sure that they know he has a presence with our defense."

With Anthony going into his fourth year in the league, he has learned a lot, and now he can more effectively use the knowledge he has gained to mentor other young guards on the Magic, such as rookie Anthony Black.

Anthony will have another chance to show his improvements that he has made and the defensive impact he can have when he and the rest of the Magic play in the team's final preseason game against Brazilian basketball club Flamenco. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Amway Center.
