ORLANDO - Former Orlando Magic star Dwight Howard is looking for a return to the NBA, and the team that drafted him could be an option.

"Expect Howard to discuss a potential return to the league with any other interested team in the coming week or so," NBA insider Shams Charania said.

Most recently, Howard was playing overseas in Taiwan for the Taoyuan Leopards. In 20 games, he averaged 23.2 points per game, 16.2 rebounds per game and 5.0 assists per game along with 1.2 blocks per game.

Howard is 37 years old and last played in the NBA for the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2021-22 season.

He got his start in the league with the Magic when they drafted him with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2004 NBA draft and the rest was history. Howard became an Orlando legend, averaging 18.4 points, 13.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 2.2 blocks per game in eight seasons with the team.

While with the Magic, he was named to six All Star games and five All-NBA first teams. He also won three Defensive Player of the Year trophies and led the NBA in rebounds per game in four seasons.

The Golden State Warriors hosted Howard on a two-day visit to see if he would be a good fit for the team. They decided to move forward without signing the veteran big man, maintaining roster flexibility.

A reunion could be possible for Howard and the Magic as retirement looms for the center. In fact, Howard has previously expressed interest in returning to the place where it all started.

The Magic begins training camp on Tuesday, Oct. 3.
