Franz Wagner Leads Magic Past Spurs

The Orlando Magic pulled away late in the first half for their second win over the San Antonio Spurs in nine days.

ORLANDO - A stellar performance from Franz Wagner helped lead the Orlando Magic to a 127-111 win over the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday at the Kia Center. 

The win was Orlando's (28-24) second in nine days over the Spurs (10-42). 

Wagner led a balanced attack from the Magic, as six players scored in double-digits. Wagner scored 34 points with seven assists and four rebounds. Jalen Suggs scored 17 points and had two assists plus two rebounds, and Paolo Banchero scored 16 points with six assists and five rebounds.

Jonathan Isaac had an energizing performance off the bench, scoring nine points with six rebounds, and he blocked Victor Wembanyama early in the second quarter. 

Wembanyama, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, scored 15 points and had a pair of assists. Devin Vassell led the Spurs with 30 points, five rebounds and four assists. Tre Jones and Blake Wesley each had 10. 

After the Magic jumped out to an early 9-0 lead, the Spurs clawed back, tying the game once in the first and second quarters. With the Magic ahead 42-40, they closed the first half on a 19-4 run to lead 61-44 at halftime. 

San Antonio made a run in the third quarter, cutting the Magic's lead to 10 points on two occasions. That's as close as the Spurs would get, as the Magic extended their lead to as many in the fourth quarter and coasted to a win to seal the season sweep.
