ORLANDO - The Orlando Magic continue to receive praise for its 34-48 campaign this season, and forward Franz Wagner may have been the most crucial aspect for it.

After being selected No. 8 overall in the 2021 NBA Draft, Wagner endured a 22-win campaign in his rookie year. Despite a lack of team success, the Michigan product posted 15.2 points en route to be named to the NBA's All-Rookie First Team.

Wagner followed up his impressive rookie season with an improved second year - jumping to 18.6 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.5 assists.

The Ringer released its top-125 players list, with Wagner coming in at the No. 78 spot.

"He’s capable of running pick-and-rolls with the intent of scoring or distributing while also doing the standard business as a screener," The Ringer writes. "He can pick-and-pop for 3s, or attack off the dribble, or even roll to finish with finesse around the rim. He’s a selfless passer who rarely turns the ball over. As the Magic build their roster by adding more shooting, Wagner will only grow into a more vital playmaking hub because of his ability to operate out of handoff actions.

Along with his proven durability - missing just three games over the past two years - the 6-10 forward has demonstrated his ability to switch and guard multiple positions on the defensive end.

"Every action displayed on that play epitomizes who Wagner is: one of the league’s most versatile defenders with a computer brain on defense and an insatiable appetite for getting stops," The Ringer writes.

If Wagner continues to grow, especially on the defensive end, it won't be long before he becomes a crucial component of winning basketball in Orlando.
