NBA Offseason Grades: Magic 'Stands Pat' in Free Agency?

The Orlando Magic played it safe this offseason, drafting guards Jett Howard and Anthony Black, while signing Joe Ingles in free agency.

The Orlando Magic is running it back next season ... for the most part.

While the team is bringing in three new faces, the front office ultimately decided to return a bulk of the same core that won 34 games last season.

And that trio of new players are two rookies (Anthony Black, Jett Howard) and a veteran free agency signing in Joe Ingles.

For these relatively low-risk moves, Orlando received a "C+" in Bleacher Report's "Offseason Free Agency" grades.

"Ingles certainly won't be a problem for the Magic," Bleacher Report writes. "And his deal will likely be over before they start really competing, but the price just comes as a bit of a surprise.

"Black, the Arkansas playmaker who shot 30.1 percent from three and 70.5 percent from the free-throw line as a freshman, was sort of a curious pick for a team that already has Markelle Fultz and Jalen Suggs too. But a draft pick of any position could've been met with the same skepticism. Orlando has solid, young talents in the backcourt, on the wings and in the frontcourt."

Along with landing Ingles, the Magic also retain role players in Moe Wagner, Goga Bitadze and Gary Harris to fill much-needed bench depth.

While this wasn't not a ground-breaking offseason for Orlando, allowing its young stars Paolo Banchero, Franz Wagner and Wendell Carter Jr. to continue and develop is exactly what it should be doing.

Let's not forget, this was a team that posted an above .500 record over the final 57 games of last season.
