NBA Free Agency: What's Magic's Biggest Need?

The Orlando Magic enter the 2023 NBA offseason with $22 million in cap space.

Size and athleticism were two of the biggest strengths for this Orlando Magic roster last season.

With eight players listed over 6-8, a "jumbo" frontcourt of Paolo Banchero, Franz Wagner and Wendell Carter Jr. - all 6-10 or taller - became commonplace throughout the season.

With rebounding and defensive versatility proven areas, finding another reliable shot-maker appears to be the next step in taking this roster to the next level.

"Orlando's strategy of playing four players 6'10" or taller worked for the most part this season and this is a roster that's loaded with size and length," Bleacher Report writes. "Adding another wing or two to make Magic more versatile would come in handy, especially if this team reaches the postseason."

Names that come to mind in upcoming free agency? Toronto Raptors guards Gary Trent Jr., Fred VanVleet and Boston Celtics forward Grant Williams.

With currently $22 million in cap space per Spotrac, the Magic have money to spend, with the potential for more depending on what they do with guard Gary Harris and forward Jonathan Isaac's non-guaranteed contracts.

“They could sign two guys to big contracts," Heavy.com writes. "They could trade away some of their draft assets to get experienced players and just really put everything into turning that corner and becoming a playoff team.

"What they do this summer will be real important.”

For a team looking to turn the corner and reach the postseason for the third time in 10 years, finding another wing alongside Banchero and Wagner should be a main priority this offseason.
