And yet here he is, after a decade-long career in the NBA that included some highs with the Los Angeles Lakers and - for a period in 2011-12 as a failed member of the post-NBA title Mavs - some lows ... being asked about the most high-profile romance in the world of sports and entertainment.
“My advice would be to be strong and stay by her and be as close to her as possible,” Odom told The Messenger on the subject of pop superstar Taylor Swift and her relationship with Kansas City Chiefs standout Travis Kelce. "There are going to be millions of women that want to taste what Taylor Swift is tasting, and it can be overwhelming because we’re men. ...''

Odom has certainly "lived a life''; he's struggled with drug and alcohol addictions and in October 2015 was hospitalized after being found unconscious due to cocaine at a brothel, having suffered kidney failure, several heart attacks, and 12 strokes. Odom was comatose and was placed on life support before regaining consciousness.
And of course, he briefly married Khloe Kardashian, which raised his profile well beyond basketball, as is now happening with Kelce.
Odom's warning to Kelce about maintaining the relationship?
"He just has to be strong and stick by his girl, and he’ll be all right,'' said Lamar, who knew Kardashian for a month before a marriage that essentially lasted for three years.
