Trey Murphy III Injured, Per Report

New Orleans Pelicans guard was injured during a workout session.

ESPN Adrian Wojnarowski reports New Orleans Pelicans guard Trey Murphy III "suffered a meniscus injury to his left knee during a workout today and will undergo further testing. It is immediately unclear whether he'll require surgery."

During last season, Murphy played 65 games for the Pelicans. Trey's rookie season stats were doubled regarding his minutes played, shot attempts, and points scored. Murphy's impressive performance made him the third player in NBA history to shoot 60% from two-point range, 40% from the three-point line, and 90% on his free throw attempts in a year. Additionally, he achieved this at an impressive young age, just 22 years old.

Murphy has made 202 3-point shots, making him the fourth player in franchise history to achieve this feat. The others with over 200 3-point attempts made in a season are CJ McCollum, Ryan Anderson, and Peja Stojakovic. Additionally, Murphy has set a new franchise record by making 60 three-pointers in March alone.

Although he's not typically recognized as a defensive specialist, Murphy has significantly improved in that aspect of his game. He ranked second on the team in steals (89) and blocked shots (43), demonstrating his disruptive length and athleticism against opposing offenses. With Herb Jones' perimeter defense, the Pelicans achieved the sixth-best defensive ranking in the NBA.
