Pelicans Announce New Injuries For Nance Jr., Alvarado

The New Orleans Pelicans added Jose Alvarado to the injury report, joining Larry Nance Jr. and Zion Williamson.

New Orleans, La.- The injury bug keeps landing some heavyweight blows to the New Orleans Pelicans. The team has added Jose Alvarado to an injury report already featuring Larry Nance Jr. and Zion Williamson. Per the team's most recent press release, Alvarado has been diagnosed with a stress reaction in his right tibia and will be re-evaluated in three weeks. The undrafted sophomore sensation's return-to-play timeline will be updated at a later date.

Alvarado has been averaging 9 points, 3 assists, and 2 rebounds leading the reserve unit. The Georgie Tech alum is playing just over 21 minutes per night, and has featured in 61 games, including 10 as a starter.

Larry Nance Jr. suffered a left ankle sprain during Saturday’s road loss against the New York Knicks. He will be re-evaluated in two weeks and a timetable to return will be updated accordingly, per the Pelicans

The versatile reserve big man was posting almost 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists per night on 62% shooting from the field before suffering yet another season-altering injury. Nance Jr. took time to heal from a knee injury last season after being traded but did recover in time to help the Pelicans in the postseason. He has also dealt with shoulder, neck, and groin issues in the past year.

Zion Williamson continues to make progress with rehabilitation for his right hamstring strain. Further updates on the two-time NBA All-Star will be provided following medical imaging next week.

And those are just the long-term knocks. The injury report for tomorrow's game against Portland also lists Jonas Valanciunas (left calf contusion) and Josh Richardson (right quad contusion) as questionable for the game against Portland. The Pelicans are on a three-game road trip but will come home to face Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving, and the Dallas Mavericks in a week.
