Detroit Pistons' Cade Cunningham Remains on Injury Report vs. Heat

On Sunday night, the Detroit Pistons return to the court to host the Miami Heat for the second game in a row. Once again, the Pistons have added their star guard, Cade Cunningham, to the injury report ahead of the matchup.
Lately, Cunningham has been dealing with knee soreness. As a part of a management plan, the Pistons won’t rule out the possibility of getting the former No. 1 overall pick a night off. However, that situation seems unlikely at the moment, as Cunningham is listed as “probable” to play.
Going into Friday night’s game against the Heat, the Pistons labeled Cunningham as questionable for similar reasons. He was cleared for action and issued a 31-minute shift against Miami.
While Cunningham’s been on a bit of a hot streak offensively since returning from the 2024 All-Star break, he had a quiet night against Miami this week. In 31 minutes of action, Cunningham drained just 33 percent of his shots from the field. From deep, he missed all four of his attempts.
Cunningham scored just 11 points. While he flashed some solid playmaking, dishing out nine assists while turning the ball over just three times, he couldn’t help his team overcome a slumping Miami team. Coming off of a two-game win streak, the Pistons took on a 13-point loss against the Heat on Friday.
After the game, Pistons head coach Monty Williams felt Cunningham looked fine, for the most part.
“I thought he was ok,” Williams told reporters on Friday. “They didn’t blitz him as much as I thought they would. He’s dealing with some soreness, but everybody’s dealing with it this time of year. I was proud of him and [Jaden Ivey], I think he rolled his ankle and just stayed in there. I applaud those guys for fighting through the soreness that they are all dealing with. All of our guys are battling something this time of the year. Just part of being in the NBA.”
While Cunningham missed a handful of games at times throughout the 2023-2024 season, he hasn’t missed an outing since early February. Friday’s game against the Heat marked Cunningham’s 16th game in a row. During that stretch, he has averaged 22 points, five rebounds, and eight assists.
