Pistons Not Worried About Struggles of Trade Deadline Acquisition
Among the group of new faces the Detroit Pistons brought in at the trade deadline was guard Quentin Grimes. While his time with the team hasn't gone as well as some might have hoped, the team is far from worried.
The Pistons acquired Grimes from the New York Knicks in Bojan Bogdanovic/Alec Burks trade. His debuted as delayed as he was dealing with a knee injury at time the time of the deal.
Before coming over, Grimes was a career 37.2% shooter from beyond the arc. Through his first five games, that is not an area of his game that has carried over. With Detroit, Grimes is currently shooting 16% from deep on less than one attempt per game.
Pistons coach Monty Williams was asked about Grimes' shooting struggles, and he isn't worried. Even with his early shooting struggles, the team still likes the overall impact he has brought on the floor.
"Troy and I talked about it this morning. If you only looked at the shooting, you would be a bit disheartened, but if you look at his game as a whole, I thought he was solid," Williams said. "Defensively, he was pretty good. Getting over screens and guarding the ball, playing in .5."
Despite the slow start, Grimes has still shown some flashes with the Pistons. His best performance thus far came against his former team at the end of February. In a controversial matchup with the Knicks, Grimes posted 14 points and connected on three of his sex attempts from three.
When the Pistons acquired Grimes, they did so with the long game in mind. As he continues to get back to 100%, they feel he can be a key piece for the team in the future.
