Taj Gibson Reacts to Signing 10-Day Deal With Pistons

Journeyman center shares thoughts on landing deal with Pistons.

Earlier this week, the Detroit Pistons decided to bring in some veteran experience around their young core. Journeyman center Taj Gibson has joined the team on a 10-day contract.

Gibson has yet to appear in a game for the Pistons but has been vocal with some of the younger players in practice. He was recently asked about his thoughts on coming to Detroit and gave a glowing response. Gibson stated that he's always been a fan of the Pistons organization and is excited to play a part in what they are building now.

“Man, listen. I’ve been a big fan of this organization for a long time. I know countless number of players that played here throughout the years,"Gibson told reporters. "It just feels good to be in Detroit & just to be able to be a part of something that’s growing."

Gibson, 38, most recently played for the New York Knicks. He appeared in 16 games for them this season averaging 1.0 PPG and 1.8 RPG.

At this stage of his career, Gibson doesn't have much to offer in terms of an on-court perspective. However, he can still be impactful behind the scenes. As someone who has been around the league for almost 15 years now, he understands what it takes to be productive.

Even if it's just for this short time, guys like Jalen Duren and James Wiseman have an experienced vet around. Gibson can give them words of wisdom, along with some tips on how to grow their game. This was a smart move by the Pistons as they hope it pays dividends down the road.

Gibson has played in nearly 1,000 games since being a first-round pick in 2009. His stops include the Chicago Bulls, OKC Thunder, Minnesota Timberwolves, Knicks, and Washington Wizards
