Raptors Have Decision to Make With Intriguing Rotation Player Now a Free Agent

The Toronto Raptors will have to make a decision on Jahmi'us Ramsey following the expiration of his second 10-day contract

The Toronto Raptors have a decision to make.

Jahmi'us Ramsey's second 10-day contract has expired and now the 22-year-old guard is once again a free agent. Considering how he's looked lately, he likely won't linger for very long.

Having exhausted his two 10-day contracts with the team, the Raptors will have to sign Ramsey for the remainder of the season should the organization elect to keep him around. It would likely be on a minimum contract with some partially or non-guaranteed salary for next season to keep Ramsey as a training camp invitee ahead of next season.

Ramsey has appeared in seven games for the Raptors so far and made his first career start Saturday night against the Washington Wizards. He's averaging 6.7 points across those games and has looked like one of Toronto's more reliable rotation players over the team's recent 10-game losing streak.

Without Ramsey signed, Toronto finds itself with an open roster spot. The team had previously shuffled through 10-day contracts before settling on DJ Carton and Mouhamadou Gueye on two-way contracts.

Assuming he's re-signed, Ramsey will likely join Toronto in training camp next year and battle for a spot alongside Javon Freeman-Liberty who also has a partially guaranteed deal for next season. In Freeman-Liberty's case, Toronto has given the 24-year-old combo guard $100,000 guaranteed for next season with a possible $1.9 million available if he makes the team.

Ramsey has appeared in 20 G League games this season and is averaging 20.5 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 3.6 assists while shooting 52.8% from the floor and 40.1% from three-point range.
