The Toronto Raptors are making a late push to keep Fred VanVleet.

All indications are it’s going to take a lot to keep VanVleet in Toronto. The Houston Rockets are widely reported to be making him a two-year, $84 million offer to pry him away from the Raptors. But Toronto isn’t going to make it easy and is reportedly planning to offer a four-year, $120 million deal contract, according to Michael Grange and Jake Fischer.

The Raptors had initially planned on offering VanVleet a more short-term deal but the threat posed by Houston appears to have swayed negotiations. While the average annual value on the reported offer is just $30 million, over $10 million less per season, the extra two years could sway VanVleet to remain with the organization.

VanVleet is said to be meeting with both the Raptors and Rockets on Friday evening in Los Angeles. Teams have not officially been allowed to contact free agents until 6 p.m. ET Friday night.

Toronto will be right up against the $165 million luxury tax threshold if both VanVleet and Jakob Poeltl are re-signed this summer. The Raptors may have to make a cash-saving deal to free up space below the threshold to retain both players.

VanVleet is among the most coveted free agents this summer.
