Otto Porter Jr. is going to miss some time.

The Toronto Raptors forward has been ruled out Monday night against the New York Knicks with a left foot contusion, Raptors coach Darko Rajaković said Sunday. Porter did not practice Sunday, though the team is optimistic that it won’t be long before the 30-year-old is back on the court.

Porter had just begun to find his footing with the Raptors after missing almost all of last season with an injury on his left foot. Toronto had played it cautious with the oft-injured veteran for most of the year but Porter was showing he deserved a longer look in the rotation.

“His natural position, at this stage of his career, is playing some three and four and stretching the floor out but also he’s capable to be in pick and roll, pick and pops, stretch the floor that way as well,” Rajaković said earlier this week. “I think just his experience on the court, knowing where to be on the court, communicating with guys helps us on the court.”

Without Porter, expect Toronto to go with a nine-man rotation including Gary Trent Jr., Precious Achiuwa, Malachi Flynn, and Chris Boucher off the bench. Porter will likely slide back into that group as the team’s 10th man when he does return.

After the trip to New York, the Raptors will return home for a two-game set against the Atlanta Hawks starting on Wednesday.

Christian Koloko is the only other injured Raptors player as he continues to battle through ongoing respiratory issues.
