2023 NBA Draft: Cam Whitmore To Meet With Rockets

With the 2023 NBA Draft five days away, projected top-10 pick Cam Whitmore will meet with the Houston Rockets on Saturday.

HOUSTON — NBA draft prospect Cam Whitmore has been in Houston on several occasions working out at the University of Houston. But on Saturday, Whitmore will meet with the Houston Rockets, as first reported by KPRC.

Whitmore had been training on the U of H Campus with draftmate Jarace Walker, a University of Houston prospect. Walker and Whitmore have developed a relationship due to sharing the same agent.

Whitmore is a projected top-10 pick who has the skills to enhance the Rockets play at small forward. He is an athletic wingman who thrives in transition and is a solid defensive player.

Houston had scheduled a meeting with the 18-year-old forward during the NBA Draft Combine in Chicago. But before his interview, Whitmore had an idea of how he would fit alongside Houston's starting backcourt in Jalen Green and Kevin Porter Jr.

"They’re athletic type of guards who can score offensively and get guys involved, guards who can rotate one through five," Whitmore said. "I think it’s a great fit with the athletic type of young guys who can get the job done."

Whitmore played one season at Villanova and averaged 12.5 points and 5.3 rebounds across 26 games. He scored a career-best 26 points on 11-for-18 shooting from the field, 3-for-7 from deep in an 88-80 defeat to Xavier on Jan. 7.

The Rockets hold the No. 4 pick ahead of Thursday's NBA Draft inside Barclays Center. The top two projected prospects for Houston are Whitmore and Overtime Elite prospect Amen Thompson.
