HOUSTON — Houston Rockets coach Stephen Silas has not talked to owner Tilman Fertitta and general manager Rafael Stone about his future. But in the final season of his three-year contract, Silas remains in limbo.

"I am proud of the job I have done," Silas said. "I have a three-year contract, and this is the last home game of my three years. So whatever happens, happens after this. But I cannot be anything but proud."

Unless the Rockets pick up the option on his three-year contract, Silas' tenure as head coach in Houston will end after the 2022-23 campaign.

Silas' first head coaching opportunity with the Rockets became a 180 from the job he accepted in October 2020. Silas vowed he wasn't a rebuilding coach, but the departure of James Harden and Russell Westbrook thrust him into an unfortunate situation.

The Rockets have gone through a youth movement since losing a pair of future Hall-of-Famers. And ahead of Tuesday's home finale against the Denver Nuggets inside the Toyota Center, Silas has only won 56 games out of a possible 255.

San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said in March patience will be the key to the Rockets finding success with Silas at the helm.

Silas has been keen on the significance of patience but revealed it's difficult when guiding a franchise three years into a rebuild. Silas wishes he could speed up the learning curve for instant success but says any sense of tension could hamper the development and play of his young players.
