K.J. Martin Hosts Thanksgiving Event For Rockets' Season Of Giving

Houston Rockets forward K.J. Martin provided gifts and groceries to families amid a Thanksgiving community event.

HOUSTON — Houston Rockets forward K.J. Martin hosted a Thanksgiving event for fifty young boys from the Urban Enrichment Institute Thursday evening at the Fifth Ward Multi-Service Center.

Martin's event was the first of four community affairs as part of the Rockets' Season of Giving, where he provided gifts to children and Thanksgiving groceries to families.

"It was a great experience," Martin said. "Anytime I have an opportunity to give back to help less fortunate families, I am all for it."

Martin's Thanksgiving event was his second featured holiday occasion since joining the Rockets following the 2020 NBA Draft. Martin's first-holiday event came amid a Christmas affair during the 2021-22 campaign.

In addition to providing gifts and groceries, Martin took time to partake in a Q&A session — where the third-year forward shared information about playing in the NBA and what college he would have attended had he chosen the collegiate route.

Martin also shared information about learning from his father, Kenyon Martin Sr., a former NBA All-Star (2004) and National College Player of the Year winner (2000).

"Growing up, my dad hosted back-to-school camps, where he gave kids supplies for the upcoming school year," Martin said. "Growing up, he always told me to help people out, and he used to bring me to some of the events. I'm blessed to be able to do this now on my own."

On the court, Martin's ongoing development has taken significant strides. Through the first 15 games of the season, Martin is currently averaging a career-best 10.9 points and 4.7 rebounds for the Rockets.
