HOUSTON — The Houston Rockets will have a high lottery pick for the third consecutive year following a disappointing 2022-23 campaign.

And based on finishing the season tied for the second-worst record with the San Antonio Spurs, the Rockets could miss out on the opportunity to land French phenom Victor Wembanyama by falling to the No. 2 pick of the 2023 NBA Draft.

The Rockets struck gold by selecting Jalen Green with the second pick of the 2021 NBA draft nearly two years ago. And now, ESPN draft analysts believe Houston would take Alabama's Brandon Miller with the same pick in their first of several mock drafts

"At 6-9, he brings excellent size on the wing, along with dynamic shot-making and increasingly strong playmaking and defensive versatility," Jonathan Givony said. "He's an easy fit on basically any roster, and would benefit playing alongside the shot-creation prowess of Jalen Green and Alperen Sengun and the floor spacing of Jabari Smith Jr. as he makes the adjustment to the NBA."

The selection of Miller would mean the Rockets passed on the draft selection of Scoot Henderson, who went No. 3 to the Spurs. Wembanyama went No. 1 to the Detroit Pistons.

Miller, outside of an off-court issue, became the top prospect in college basketball during the 2022-23 campaign. He led the Crimson Tide to a 31-6 record and a spot in the big dance in March while averaging 18.8 points on .430/.384/.859 shooting splits and 8.2 rebounds.
