SAN ANTONIO - They all want to be San Antonio Spurs now! Or, at least it seems all the French guys do.

Veteran New York Knicks swingman Evan Fournier kicked the hornet's nest this week telling French outlet L'Equipe that he'd love to play in San Antonio with newly drafted Parisian phenom Victor Wembanyama and the GOAT coach Gregg Popovich.

"It's not the Spurs of 2014 anymore but playing for (Popovich, and learning from him, it would be a pleasure and an honor, for sure," Fournier said in an interview with Yann Ohnona of L'Equipe. "Being with Victor, looking at the Olympics, being able to start chemistry on the court, that would be great."

This is simply an honest answer to the question of would he like to play for the Spurs. But, it's New York, and Gotham can be quite the overreactor.

It also doesn't help matters that Fournier fell out of favor with the Knicks and has admitted that his relationship with head coach Tom Thibodeau isn't the best. Flush with salary cap cash and at least three players over the limit on the roster, trades do seem imminent in San Antonio. Nobody knows whether they have an interest in Fournier, but the word is out.

The Spurs are a destination franchise. At least for some of the guys representing Le Bleu in Paris in 2024.
