Spurs vs. Hornets, Lakers in California Classic; Victor Wembanyama vs. Scoot Henderson?

Though the San Antonio Spurs are yet to officially select Victor Wembanyama with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, his inevitable arrival to the Alamo City has earned the team a summer spotlight.

The Victor Wembanyama effect is already making an impact on the San Antonio Spurs and the growing attention they'll be set to receive next season.

The Spurs will play at the 2023 California Classic inside the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento this July to kickoff their offseason action, the team announced Wednesday.

Though the Spurs are yet to officially select the 7-foot French phenom with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, his inevitable arrival to San Antonio has earned the team a summer spotlight.

Here's the schedule for the Spurs:

- Spurs vs. Charlotte Hornets on Monday, July 3 at 7 p.m. CT

- Spurs vs. Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday, July 5 at 7 p.m. CT

The league clearly knew what it was doing with the scheduling for this event. Wembanyama could potentially matchup against potential Hornets No. 2 overall pick and G League Ignite guard Scoot Henderson.

Wembanyama has often been called the best prospect since LeBron, so the hype and headlines will write themselves for a not-so-normal exhibition game in July.

However, it's possible the Spurs may want to take it slow with Wembanyama and won't rush him out onto the court less than two weeks after selecting him.

The potential for some jaw-dropping excitement is all there for the 2023 California Classic, but it remains to be seen if the proper cast of characters will be present to participate in what would be quite the pair of matchups for the Spurs.

The 2023 NBA Draft will take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Thursday, June 22.
