Spurs Fans, Don't Overreact to Victor Wembanyama's Summer League Debut

Victor Wembanyama struggled in his Las Vegas Summer League debut, but San Antonio Spurs fans shouldn't be concerned.

SAN ANTONIO - Victor Wembanyama will play in Summer League for the San Antonio Spurs, not at the California Classic in Sacramento, but he will dress and play in Las Vegas.

The official NBA measurements are in and Wembanyama is 7 feet, 3 1/2 inches in height without shoes. He claimed he was 7-4 in October of last year. Some people have guessed he's 7-5 in sneakers. Does it matter?

Like his height, what happens in Summer League doesn't matter a whole lot for Vic.

In his first action with the Spurs, Wembanyama struggled. He scored just nine points on 2 of 13 shooting in 27 minutes of action. He also had eight rebounds, three assists and five blocks. Those five blocks could be the saving grace of his debut, maybe best demonstrating both that IQ ... and the fact that he's one of the tallest players in the NBA.

This is the part where I warn you not to overreact to anything seen or heard in Vegas. None of it will have any bearing on the season that Wemby will have. Actually, I may be talking to myself. Find a brown paper bag, breathe into it and chill. It's just Summer League. Repeat that sentence about two more times.

Wemby and the Spurs are back in action tomorrow against the Portland Trail Blazers. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
