NBA Power Rankings: Spurs Not Last?

Good news, the Spurs are about a month away from the NBA Draft Lottery.

DALLAS - It's the best time of the year for the NBA, but the San Antonio Spurs are on the outside looking in. The NBA Playoffs schedule and seeding has been set, with 20 teams still in the mix for the 2022-23 title.

In what was a rebuilding year for the Spurs, this young team finished it off by defeating the Dallas Mavericks in their largest of the season.

San Antonio's offseason, with many questions and possible changes, begins now.

The Spurs are about a month away from the NBA Draft Lottery, where it will be revealed if San Antonio will have the opportunity to take Victor Wembanyama with the No. 1 overall pick. San Antonio has 14 percent odds at landing the No. 1 overall pick -- tied for the highest odds available.

In the newest power rankings by CBS Sports, San Antonio lands at No. 29 with their final 22-60 record. The Detroit Pistons, who will have a new head coach next year, ranked last at No. 30

"The Spurs had one mission this season, and they accomplished it by earning the highest odds at a shot at Victor Wembanyama," CBS Sports writes. "Keldon Johnson and Devin Vassell look like solid pieces moving forward, but outside of that we didn't learn a whole lot about San Antonio's future this year."

A bright side for San Antonio this season was a healthy Zach Collins' breakout season. The big man was healthy and totaled career highs in points (11.6), rebounds (6.4), assists (2.9) and steals per game. His consistent string of strong performances down the stretch of this NBA season that have earned him a starter's confirmation in 2023-24.

A look at the postseason picture ... The No. 1-seeded Milwaukee Bucks and Denver Nuggets locked down home-court advantage while the Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Lakers seem to be trending up at the right time. The Bucks are the favorites to win the championship while the defending-champion Golden State Warriors successfully avoided the Play-In-Tournament with the No. 6 seed.
