"The Austin Spurs today announced that they have agreed to a trade with the South Bay Lakers acquiring the returning player rights of Javante McCoy in exchange for the returning player rights of Chaundee Brown Jr. and a 2024 second round draft pick," the Austin Spurs tweeted.

McCoy, who went undrafted out of Boston College in 2022, averaged 14.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game in the G League last season. He shot 52.4 percent from the field and 37 percent from the three-point range in 26 games.

McCoy will look to compete for a regular-season roster spot during training camp, but is likely to start the season in Austin barring a surprise.

Per HoopsRumors, this might actually benefit McCoy financially.

"Assuming McCoy is waived by San Antonio prior to the season and then spends at least 60 days with Austin, he’ll be eligible to earn a $75K bonus on top of his G League salary," HoopsRumors wrote.

The Spurs play their first preseason game on Monday, Oct. 9 against the Oklahoma City Thunder at Paycom Center.
