Spurs SG Josh Richardson: Trade, Keep or Cut?

Only 24 hours away from the trade deadline, teams have their eyes on San Antonio Spurs shooting guard Josh Richardson.

As the San Antonio Spurs look toward the future, wing player Josh Richardson could get cut. Or he could be traded. Or it could all be smoke and mirrors and he stays after the deadline.

“Since the Spurs are so far under the minimum team salary, they may not buy out Josh Richardson. Still, teams have an eye on him, just in case,” said Bleacher Report.

Richardson, 29, has averaged 11.4 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 3.3 assists this season while playing 23.6 minutes per game.

On an expiring contract, Richardson will likely find himself on another roster post-trade deadline regardless of whether or not the Spurs can find a trade partner to free up more minutes for their young players like Romeo Langford, who they acquired around last season’s trade deadline.

Championship-contending teams could find Richardson’s shooting ability and pesky defense enticing enough to make a deal before tomorrow’s trade deadline rather than relying on San Antonio to cut him.

The Dallas Mavericks have been active during the leadup to this season’s trade deadline and could look to get Richardson back in blue, as he was during the 2020-21 season.

Expect the Spurs to be sellers at the deadline, potentially with the Mavericks since they’re reportedly looking to make more moves.

“Dallas has looked for ways to move JaVale McGee ahead of the deadline,” Yahoo Sports said.

With San Antonio having an abundance of available cap space and looking to build for the future, there could be a swap of McGee and picks for a Spurs veteran like Jakob Poeltl or Richardson.

Keep an eye on the state of Texas on deadline day.
