Why San Antonio Spurs Veteran Doug McDermott Appreciates Victor Wembanyama

Victor Wembanyama is one of the most physically gifted players we have ever seen, and Doug McDermott is grateful for that.

San Antonio Spurs rookie phenom Victor Wembanyama is the most hyped up prospect since LeBron James, and for a number of different reasons. But the reason thought to be most important by most people is his ridiculously long and slender frame, and his athleticism for that size.

His 7-4, 209-pound frame combined with his absolutely ridiculous listed wingspan of eight feet makes him one of the most unique players that we have ever seen in the league. His long arms will be able to let him block some shots that other players would not even dream of getting their hands on.

His unique build and set of skills comes with a unique style of play for his size. His offensive game may take some time to adapt to the NBA, but it is Wembanyama's defense that will have an immediate impact on every game he plays in. His defensive potential has not gone unnoticed by his teammates, namely, veteran forward Doug McDermott, who spoke more about Wemby in his interview at the San Antonio Spurs media day.

"I feel a little bit better about getting blown by now," McDermott said. "I like my chances with a guard at the rim against him. I came off of a handoff at an open gym a couple weeks ago and I thought I had a wide open three, and all of a sudden an arm comes out of nowhere and takes the ball out of the air. It's pretty special, and I think he's gonna be able to dominate on that end of the floor."

Wembanyama is already leaving his mark on the veterans of this league with the athleticism and length that he brings to the court. With someone that talented behind you protecting the paint, you can sit back and watch him erase every shot that gets anywhere near the rim.
