Spurs' Victor Wembanyama in 'Perfect Spot,' Says Tony Parker

Tony Parker may be biased, but he believes Victor Wembanyama will thrive with the San Antonio Spurs.

SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Spurs are counting down the days for Victor Wembanyama to return to the city to begin preparing for his first NBA campaign.

After his stint in the Las Vegas Summer League, Wembanyama has gone underground for some much needed downtime from the spotlight that was white hot on him wherever he went upon his arrival to the US.

The spotlight won't get dimmer when the regular season starts, but San Antonio may be the best place to go for a player like Wembanyama ... at least that's what fellow Frenchman Tony Parker thinks.

"Obviously I'm a little biased, but I think he's in a perfect spot with Coach Pop, one of the best coaches in NBA history," Parker told "Inside Hook" Magazine this week. "I think he's going to have the patience he needs to meet expectations. He did his homework. He knows he's ready. He's in the right spot."

Parker knows a thing or two about playing in San Antonio. The four-time NBA champion will be inducted into the Hall of Fame next month ... and while he is probably biased due to their French background, there's no reason to think "TP" is just blowing smoke.

Whether Wembanyama is the next great big man in the league or whether he's the next Shawn Bradley remains to be seen. Until we get some games or at least a public sighting of him, Wemby remains this comet that blew over the city and is now gone. At least for now. He may not be Tim Duncan but I'm predicting he's not Bradley either.

Only time will tell.
