Victor Wembanyama's Incredible 5x5 Game Makes NBA History in Spurs' Loss to Lakers

Victor Wembanyama became the youngest player in NBA history to record a 5x5 stat line in the San Antonio Spurs' loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday night.

Although the San Antonio Spurs lost for the 46th time in 57 games on Friday night against LeBron James' Los Angeles Lakers, rookie star Victor Wembanyama continued to show why better days will be coming later down the road for the proud franchise.

In just 31 minutes of action, Wembanyama put up a massive stat line of 27 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists, five steals and five blocks while shooting 7-16 overall and 10-11 from the free-throw line. It was just the 15th 5x5 stat line ever recorded in NBA history.

To add even more context to Wembanyama's performance, he became the youngest player to record a 5x5 game at 20 years old. The previous youngest player to do it was Utah Jazz's Andrei Kirilenko, who was 22 years old when he accomplished the feat. Wembanyama also posted his 5x5 game in record speed, doing it in 31 minutes played with the previous fastest time being 34 minutes by Marcus Camby.

In typical Gregg Popovich fashion, the Hall-of-Fame head coach downplayed the significance of what his young star did on Friday.

"I don't think in those terms," Popovich said when asked about the 5x5 stat line. "I don’t care what his stats are as long as he plays well."

The Spurs will now travel to Salt Lake City to take on the Utah Jazz on Sunday night before finishing up their season-long nine-game road trip against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday.
