How Will Suns Finish Regular Season?

How will the Phoenix Suns finish the regular season? They could climb to as high as the No. 2 seed.

The Western Conference remains wild. The difference between the 5 seed and the play-in tournament is precisely 0.5 games. The Phoenix Suns have three roads of possibilities remaining this year now that Keven Durant is out for what could be the remainder of the regular season.

Listed below in no particular order:

1. Nothing changes and they finish as the four seed.

2. The Suns take advantage of Memphis’ implosion and become the three seed but cannot surpass the Sacramento Kings.

3. The Suns stay hot and end the year in the two seed.

Of the current nine teams in the west that are within 4.5 games of each other, the Suns seem to be on their way to playing one of three teams:

The Dallas Mavericks and the Los Angeles Lakers seem to pose the largest threat to the Suns in the first round of the playoffs, in that order. It feels almost destined for Dallas and Phoenix to collide in the opening round, as a rematch of Mavericks-Suns from the 2021-22 season would be electric.

With the added nuance of Kevin Durant vs Kyrie Irving sprinkled in, this would be an all-time classic without question. It appears after last Sunday’s win in Dallas the tides have turned with Durant in Phoenix, yet the only way to test that theory is a seven-game series.

From modern classics to ancient classics, the Lakers are heating up and they still have LeBron James waiting to join. Anthony Davis would be a beast for Deandre Ayton to have to deal with and this series could easily go to six games for Phoenix.

The other team in LA (Clippers) currently would play the Suns should the season end today. The matchup would be a favorable first round matchup for the Suns after going 2-1 against the Clippers despite both teams being littered with stars.

With 16 games left in the regular season, Phoenix has the opportunity to gain some pivotal ground in the race for the No. 2 seed even in the absence of Durant.

The Suns will have a chance tonight to inch one game closer to the Kings as they play in Sacramento. Tip off is scheduled for 7pm.
