What Phoenix Hosting All-Star Game Means For Suns

Phoenix is reportedly set to host the 2027 NBA All-Star Game - but what's it mean for the city?

PHOENIX -- The city of Phoenix and the Phoenix Suns got positive news earlier this week when NBA insider Shams Charania reported the city was near a deal to secure hosting the 2027 NBA All-Star Game.

The All-Star Game joins the growing list of major events being held in the Valley - from multiple Super Bowls, to hosting a second NCAA Men's Final Four in the last decade this spring while also holding possibly the most unique golf tournament in the world in the WM Phoenix Open.

One event that Phoenix hasn't had the opportunity to host in recent years is the All-Star game - the city hasn't hosted festivities since 2009.

This development isn't only positive to the city of Phoenix - but might be vital to the future of the Suns' franchise.

The purchase of the franchise by Mat Ishbia in February 2023 was highlighted by the acquisition of Nets' superstar Kevin Durant - and ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski proclaiming Phoenix had become a "destination franchise" for prospective free agents.

The news of the All-Star game just confirms many things that were already known - Phoenix is a basketball city, Phoenix is a legitimate destination that's attractive to players from the outside, and the future continues to be very bright with Devin Booker at the helm as a franchise player.

The 2026 free agency class is full of star power and Phoenix has only one player under contract in the summer of 2026 in Booker.

There's a distinct possibility that Booker will have a running mate or two in the 2027 rendition of the game - possibly Kevin Durant and someone else from the 2026 free agency class.

Who knows what the future will hold?
