PHOENIX -- The Phoenix Suns (41-29) are taking on the San Antonio Spurs (15-55) in the first game of a nearly two-week long road trip this evening.

The Suns are coming off of back-to-back victories at home against the Philadelphia 76ers and Atlanta Hawks, respectively, while the Spurs have only managed one victory in the last five played.

A brief update on Victor Wembanyama, a player to watch, and a game prediction is to ensue:

Wemby Watch

The Spurs’ rookie phenom made a statement just a few games into his career by leading the Spurs to victories over the contending Suns in late October - and he has improved significantly since then.

The once-labeled “generational” draft prospect has lived up to the hype to the tune of 21.8 PPG, 12.3 RPG, 4.4 APG, and 4.5 BPG.

Wembanyama is already one of the most dominant defenders in the game and his offensive game is swiftly catching up to his already top-shelf defense.

The Suns cannot take the Spurs lightly due to the 7’4” big man out of France.

Player to Watch: Devin Vassell

Vassell remains one of the more under-the-radar players across the league despite receiving a max contract extension from the Spurs last summer.

The 2020 lottery pick has been one of the only consistent sources of support around Wembanyama in 2023-24 - he has posted averages of roughly 20-5-5 on strong efficiency over the past ten games.

Vassell is the Spurs’ x-factor tonight - if he plays well, they have a chance to stay competitive.

Game Prediction: Suns Win

It’s difficult to envision the Suns dropping this game even when taking the emergence of Wembanyama into account.

Phoenix lost their last two games against San Antonio - and those losses are costing them currently when looking at the standings.

The Suns absolutely need this victory and they will not let it slip away tonight.

Suns-Spurs is set to tip at approximately 5:10 PM Arizona time this evening.
