Insider Reveals Suns Plans in Trade Market

The Phoenix Suns will not take a common path outsiders had hoped, according to Chris Haynes.

PHOENIX -- While the Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Lakers battle on the court as we approach the halfway point of the 2023-24 season, NBA on TNT insider Chris Haynes was introduced to the broadcast to give some inside info on what the two sides could be targeting as the trade deadline nears.

After revealing the Lakers were eying a run at Atlanta Hawks shooting guard Dejounte Murray, Haynes touched on what was discovered during conversations with people inside the Suns:

"A lot of people will point to a point guard, but in talking with the Suns they believe that with Devin Booker, Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal, they feel like they need the ball in their hands. They feel like they don't need another point guard that's going to take the ball away [from their stars]," said Haynes during the broadcast.

"So right now, they're looking for - as the trade deadline approaches - they're looking for an athletic wing. That is what I was told the Lakers and the Suns are looking for as the trade deadline approaches. February 8 is the deadline."

Many had pegged Phoenix to be in the market for a more traditional point guard with the offense struggling to find its identity early on.

It will be interesting to see specifically who the Suns target around the deadline, and though the market has been fairly quiet, Haynes says the market is about to heat up:

"Obviously around this time of year, this is when things start to get serious. Right now teams are posturing - there's not a whole lot of sellers right now, but I expect things to change over the next week or so. I think things will really get serious."
