Cam Whitmore Would be a Steal for OKC

Oklahoma City could use a dynamic wing to add depth to a thinner position, and Cam Whitmore could be the best option.

There’s a ton of talented players in this year’s NBA draft, and Oklahoma City will have a good chance to get one of the best available in the late lottery.

With a pick in the range OKC will likely select, there’s always a chance the tables fall perfectly in order and a player slips down to their pick. For OKC they could be in a position to hope Cam Whitmore falls a little below his projected draft range, so he could be the newest Thunder player.

Whitmore is a 6-foot-7 forward from Villanova who has a huge wingspan and can beat teams in multiple ways.

Last season Whitmore averaged 12.5 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. He shot a respectable 47.8% from the field and 34.3% from 3-point range. Whitmore is a dynamic multi-faceted wing who would fill into the OKC rotation well.

Whitmore provides a lot of defensive upside, mostly with the help of his large 230-pound frame. He will likely be in the mix near the end of the top 10 of the draft as team’s look for a prospect who can be plugged in and make an immediate impact.

His shooting has gotten consistently better as he continues to grow and mature. He’s explosive offensively and while he’s not the most athletic prospect, he still has a strong ability to create his own shots and finds ways to score at all levels.

Whitmore made waves in his lone collegiate season at Villanova, which helped him move up draft boards. He was tabbed as the Big East Freshman of the Year to top off the season.

Overall Whitmore is still young, he doesn’t turn 19 until July, and has a long future ahead of him with a tremendously high ceiling in basketball. The Thunder are used to young multi-faceted prospects and molding them into rising stars in the league, and Whitmore could be the next if OKC can find a way to be on the clock while he’s still available.
