OKC Thunder Could Establish Longest Win Streak of the Season on Thursday

Being capped off at five and six in numerous instances, Oklahoma City could bridge that gap and claim seven consecutive wins today against San Antonio.

In a complete surprise of a season thus far, the Oklahoma City Thunder has entirely blown its season expectations out of the water.

A less-than-45 expected win total in the preseason, the success and turn around the team has seen this season unexpectedly reared its head, and has been prevalent for the whole duration of this season to this point. It's not to say that the Thunder weren't expected to improve and weren't one of the most exciting young teams entering 2023-24 – but to say that they'd clear their win total of 40 with 25 games left to play and would be fluctuating throughout the Western Conference's top two spots for nearly the entire season, it would've been laughed at.

As OKC sits 41-17 through 58 games, it's extremely special to observe what's unfolding yet again in a small market like Oklahoma City, as the atmosphere around Bricktown is steadily returning to a form reminiscent from the Westbrook-Durant era.

And throughout those 58 contests, there've been a number of three-game, five-game and a couple six-game win streaks achieved – one in progress currently – but have yet to reach that seven-game mark which teams like the Minnesota Timberwolves and Milwaukee Bucks have this season.

As the Thunder are slated to go up against the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday night, there's a strong chance they could finally reach that feat on the season – and it'd also match Oklahoma City's longest win streak since 2018-19. This'll be the third of four meetings between the two on the year, as the Thunder has claimed the previous two games with a point differential of +62.

Past that, the Thunder will look ahead to two more challenging west coast matchups versus the Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Lakers which could possibly halt their winning stretch.

It's important to note that Oklahoma City hasn't come out sluggish since the return from All-Star weekend, something that could've derailed its season-long momentum if they got complacent. But they've remained focuses, and as the team continues to have its foot on the gas, 50 wins before 20 losses is still very well on the table.
