OKC Thunder Get to 50 Wins with Victory Over Pelicans

Oklahoma City held on to win over New Orleans Tuesday, officially hitting 50 wins for the first time in years.

For the first time in nearly a decade, the Oklahoma City Thunder are officially a 50-win team.

With a seven-point win over the Pelicans Tuesday night, the Thunder notched the mark for the first time since the 2015-16 season, when it was headlined by franchise legends Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook.

Oklahoma City has now officially hit the mark six times in 16 seasons, with several more teams on pace to hit the mark. The 2019-20 team was on pace to get to 50 wins prior to the shortening of the season.

OKC was not to be denied Tuesday, jumping out to a quick lead early in New Orleans. The Pelicans rebounded, though, coming back from down 20 to take a lead in the fourth quarter. It took some heroics from Josh Giddey — who boasted 25 points on a career-high five 3-pointers — and others to finally outlast the Pelicans, 119-112.

With the win, OKC maintains its No. 2 Western Conference ranking, creating some separation from Minnesota at No. 3 while inching closer to the Nikola Jokic-led Nuggets at No. 1.

The Thunder now have just 11 games remaining on its 2023-24 schedule before the NBA Playoffs, which it is dangerously close to cementing itself in. OKC next takes on Houston Wednesday, March 26 at 7 p.m.
