OKC Thunder Finish as West’s No. 1 Seed

The Oklahoma City Thunder grabbed the West’s top seed in down-to-the-wire fashion Sunday.

The Oklahoma City Thunder capped off their 2023-24 regular season in thrilling fashion Sunday, beating the Dallas Mavericks by a blistering 49 points and earning the Western Conference’s No. 1 seed.

Most of the starters only played the first half, with OKC doubling up Dallas’ score, 82-41. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 15 points and dished six assists, and Chet Holmgren added 13 points, nine rebounds and a block.

Ironically, the team needed some help from Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns, who beat the Timberwolves to push Minnesota to No. 3. With a head-to-head tie-breaker secured over the Nuggets, OKC’s Sunday outing made them the No. 1 overall seed. The Nuggets also beat the Memphis Grizzlies — a three-way tie would've meant OKC still owned the No. 1 seed.

Oklahoma City will now boast home-court advantage in every Western Conference playoff series.

The team will have to wait for the Western Conference Play-In games to finish before it knows its first round opponent. The Warriors, Lakers, Kings and Pelicans as of now are the likely Play-In teams. OKC could face any of the four.

The loser of the seven-eight matchup and the winner of the nine-10 game will face off to play Oklahoma City in round one.
