Warriors, Bucks, Rockets Benefit from Thunder Roster Crunch

Where are each of the players that Oklahoma City parted ways with during the recent roster crunch now?

Over the past several weeks, the Oklahoma City Thunder needed to reduce the size of its roster ahead of the 2023-24 season. Given the level of talent on the roster and the amount of players fighting for spots, this meant tough decisions had to be made.

Most notably, six key players were either waived or traded ahead of the start of the season in order for the Thunder to finalize their 15-man roster. Where are those six players now?

Jack White

Considering he was just waived by the Thunder on Sunday, White is still without a team. While there should be some level of interest from other NBA clubs between now and the start of the regular season, it feels as if he will land with a G League team somewhere.

Victor Oladipo

After being traded away to Houston, Oladipo still remains on the Rockets for now. They’ll be making final roster decisions today, so it will be interesting to see if Houston opts to retain his expiring salary or cut ties.

Jeremiah Robinson-Earl

There’s no question that Robinson-Earl has talent, as he was an early second-round pick just two years ago. However, he was also part of the Rockets trade and was still in Houston fighting for a roster spot through Monday when he was waived.

Rudy Gay

Gay was one of the earliest cuts Oklahoma City made, and the veteran stayed on the market for a while then ultimately landed with the Golden State Warriors. However, he was released last week and now is in jeopardy of not being on an NBA team opening night.

Usman Garuba

Garuba would have gotten a chance to be a primary backup on this Thunder team, but was waived before the start of camp. As much upside as he has, no other team was willing to give him a spot on the 15-man roster either, so he ended up signing a two-way deal with the Warriors.

TyTy Washington

The story was roughly identical for Washington, who was traded several times before landing in OKC and ultimately being waived. He also signed a two-way deal after clearing waivers, but with the Milwaukee Bucks.
