Draymond Green Slams Warriors' Pride After Shocking Grizzlies Loss

Draymond Green called out his team.

The Golden State Warriors have had some very bad losses this season, but Monday night's loss against the incredibly shorthanded Memphis Grizzlies may have been the worst one of the season.

The Grizzlies were missing four out of their five starters, and even more additional bench players against the Warriors, but it didn't matter. It seemed like a game that Golden State should have won on paper, especially with Draymond Green returning, but that's not the way the story unfolded.

After the game, Draymond Green a very bold answer about the team's defense, even calling out his teammates' pride.

“It starts off with having pride,” Green said after the game. “You just have to have pride in yourself as a man that, ‘I’m not going to let my guy score.’ Our closeouts were too soft, our rotations were too slow. So it’s just no pride...Until every guy takes pride in themselves and want to stop the guy in front of them, we’ll suck."

While the Warriors have played with intensity at times, even being capable of gaining 20-point leads numerous times, they've been able to play a great defensive 48 minutes. They've routinely blown 20-point leads and late double-digit leads in the fourth quarter. It's that type of pride Green wants the Warriors to fix.

“You can’t just give guys free looks because he may miss 30 in a row coming into playing against us, and when he plays against us he’s gonna hit 30 in a row,” Green said. “That’s what it comes with. Until we learn that lesson, teams are going to shoot the lights out and they’re going to play their best game of the year.”

With an 18-22 record, it's still not too late for the Warriors to fix their ship. It's been said before, but this team still has time, just much less time than before.
