Former Rockets Player Gives Honest Answer About Heartbreaking Warriors Series

Five years ago, the Rockets lost a heartbreaking series to the Warriors.

Five years ago, the Houston Rockets were incredibly close to dethroning the Kevin Durant Warriors. Somehow, the team missed 27 consecutive three-pointers in Game 7 at home, and lost to the Golden State Warriors. It's a memory that still haunts players who were on that Rockets team, including Eric Gordon.

Eric Gordon was a guest on the Ikosystem, where he discussed that 2018 series against the Warriors, and how much it still haunts him. He believes the Chris Paul and James Harden duo would have lasted much longer if Houston had defeated Golden State.

“I think things would have been changed," Gordon said. "I think the team would have been together. Definitely more years. I mean, winning a championship—that’s a big-time thing. There’s no doubt the guys would have been together.”

Even though the series was five years ago, it still stings for Gordon and any other member of that Rockets team. The winner of that series faced off against a Cleveland Cavaliers team that they would have been favored against.

“It does,” Eric Gordon said about the loss still haunting him. “You only get so many chances to win a championship. And to have the chance to beat a team like that, I mean, you just never know. And sometimes when you win, you just don’t know how much that attracts other players around the league because we had a good thing going."

The history books will never remember how close the 2018 Houston Rockets were to beating the Kevin Durant Warriors, but they will remember the 2018 NBA Champion being the Golden State Warriors.
