During the lead up to the 2019 NFL draft in April, the big question for the San Francisco 49ers was who should they draft with their second overall pick? The three that seemed to get brought up the most was Nick Bosa, Quinnen Williams and Josh Allen. Each had their own unique talents that would’ve impacted any defense.

The 49ers took Nick Bosa out of Ohio State to be their anchor pass rusher. As the offseason progressed for the 49ers Nick Bosa had a couple of injuries that held him out of OTAs and again during training camp. It started raising some concern about if the 49ers should’ve even drafted him.

Well, so far through three games Bosa has proven why he was the right pick for the 49ers. I know it is premature in saying that since it has been only three games, but Bosa’s impact so far has been undeniably immense.

Versus the Pittsburgh Steelers, Bosa generated seven pressures to bring his season total for pressures to 17, which is sixth among all edge defenders per Pro Football Focus. The guy is just an absolute beast and he’s only scratching the surface. He’s making an impact in limited fashion since the 49ers don’t roll him out heavily, which is the key to preserving him for the season.

Nick Bosa and the addition of Dee Ford has done wonders for the defense. They’re making their presence felt on opposing quarterbacks and have given the secondary a comfortable position. Instead of having to cover receivers for five seconds or more, the pass rushers are able to get their before that.

It’s not even strictly about the sacks, just getting in a quarterbacks face, hitting him, or flushing him out the pocket to alter his throw is enough.

That’s why the 49ers defense are a big reason the team is 3-0 and it’s thanks to the force of the pass rushers. Unfortunately for us, we don’t have 49ers football to look forward to this week since they’re on a bye. But that just makes the anticipation for week five against the Cleveland Browns on Monday night football much more heavy.
