49ers kicker Robbie Gould's status is in doubt for Monday night against the Seattle Seahawks after he reportedly strained his quad, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. With his status bleak, the 49ers have signed Chase McLaughlin if Gould cannot manage.

McLaughlin is a undrafted rookie who played at the University of Illinois last season as a kicking specialist, meaning that he was only brought on to kick field goals of 50 yards or more. After not being drafted in April, he signed a contract with the Buffalo Bills who eventually waived him for the final roster cuts on Aug. 31.

After being waived, McLaughlin found his way onto the Los Angeles Chargers roster as an emergency kicker. He was 6 for 9 on field goal attempts, so in a way the 49ers should feel right at home with him. Gould has not been on the money this season, despite being the second highest paid kicker in the NFL.

Just as the 49ers were getting their key injured players back, they end up losing another one. The only bright side to this is that Gould's injury is just a strain, so he should not miss too much time. Regardless, this is a bit of an unfortunate situation for the 49ers who have a bit of a high stakes matchup on Monday night.
