Report: Broncos Host OT Bobby Evans on Free-Agent Visit
Monday was a busy day in Dove Valley as the Denver Broncos introduced new head coach Sean Payton and worked out a veteran free agent.
According to ESPN's Field Yates, the Broncos hosted former Los Angeles Rams offensive tackle Bobby Evans, who apparently left his visit sans deal.
A 2019 third-round draft pick, Evans has made 35 career appearances, including 12 starts — all with the Rams. He was released Dec. 31 and spent part of last month on the Minnesota Vikings' practice squad.
The 6-foot-4, 312-pound blocker played collegiately at Oklahoma where he earned first-team All-Big 12 honors.
"Three-year starter with tackle experience on both sides who plays with excellent core strength, good hand placement and a noticeable nasty streak," NFL.com's Lance Zierlein wrote in his scouting profile. "Evans is below average as an athlete but makes up for it with upper-body power and solid technique. Despite being under 6-foot-5, his arm length (34 3/4 inches) might convince a team to try him at right tackle before any moves inside. He might be scheme-dependent, but strength and toughness give him a shot at becoming a good backup with eventual starter potential."
In the weeks ahead, the Broncos are expected to centralize their area of focus on the offensive line — tackle, specifically — with several incumbents (Dalton Risner, Billy Turner, Calvin Anderson, Cameron Fleming) no longer under contract.
Consider this the opening salvo.
