The Denver Broncos brought in Kevin Hogan prior to the start of the 2018 season to replace failed first-round pick Paxton Lynch. Thankfully, Hogan never took a snap for the Broncos.

Hogan was signed only for the season and hit free agency without much attempt from the Broncos to prevent that from happening.

During the free agency period this past spring, the Broncos made multiple calls to inquire about other free-agent quarterbacks, including Blake Bortles, but didn’t manage to land any of them. This led the team re-signing Kevin Hogan to a one-year deal. This offseason he has done a lot to turn some heads, though not in a good way.

At some point, Hogan decided to change his name to Nathan Peterman, or somehow switch places with him. That is how bad Hogan has been all offseason.

Hogan has thrown multiple interceptions almost every day and is making very few positive plays, without his receivers bailing him out. You can’t blame pressure either because he is making these mistakes when he has a lot of time to make a play. He just can’t make good reads and keep from throwing to defenders.

Make no mistake — Kevin Hogan is fighting for a roster spot, and no one understands how he is still the No. 2 quarterback right now in Denver. Drew Lock, the second-round pick, has had some ups and downs, but he has been much better than Hogan and closer to consistent.

With five preseason games on the horizon, Lock has plenty of time to erase Hogan's name from the roster with his play. There is still a lot for Lock to work on, but even considering that, you can’t discount just how much better he has been than Hogan.

Time running out for Hogan. He's on his last legs in Denver. The pressure is on whether he wants to acknowledge it or not.

“I don’t think that does any good for you," Hogan said following Tuesday's practice. "If you go out and do what you’re supposed to do, what I’ve been working hard to do in the offseason, OTAs and thus far in training camp, then it will take care of itself. You can’t put that pressure on yourself.”

There is little that can forestall Hogan's demise — outside of either turning it completely around or Denver deciding they have to keep three quarterbacks. If the Broncos do decide to keep three, there is no guarantee Hogan would even be one of those three and instead look for a veteran elsewhere to come in.
