Report: Broncos Won't Pursue Trade for Jets QB Zach Wilson

Cross the former No. 2 overall pick off Denver's shortlist.

Between impending free agency and April's NFL draft, the Denver Broncos have a smorgasbord of quarterback options available to them. Zach Wilson, however, isn't among those under consideration.

Per The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt, the Broncos are unlikely to pursue the New York Jets' ballyhooed backup, whom Gang Green recently permitted to seek a trade.

"The Broncos might pursue a young quarterback, either in the draft, or trade (like a Sam Howell or Justin Fields), but the impression I got at the combine is Wilson won’t be on their list of targets," Rosenblatt wrote Thursday.

The former No. 2 overall pick, Wilson was once-upon-a-time thought to be the next Jets franchise signal-caller. His tenure, though, largely culminated in disaster as he finished with a 12-21 record in 33 starts, throwing more interceptions than touchdowns (25-23) and completing just 57% of his passes.

Last season, his first with ex-Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett (now New York's offensive coordinator), Wilson graded as Pro Football Focus' 34th-ranked QB out of 38 qualifiers. For context: Soon-to-be-ex-Broncos QB Russell Wilson ranked 18th.

Unsurprisingly, Denver appears disinterested in swapping one failed Hackett experiment for another.

The Broncos are likelier to find Russell’s replacement via next month’s NFL draft, in advance of which they’ve met with several presumptive first-round prospects including Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, JJ McCarthy, Bo Nix, and Michael Penix Jr.
