On Tuesday, the Denver Broncos announced two roster moves. The Broncos signed outside linebacker Malik Carney and safety Tyvis Powell to the team's practice squad.

Tuesday is the day NFL teams hold workouts for players trying to catch on, which is why fans usually see a little flurry of activity as teams churn the bottom of the roster and practice squad.

Carney will wear jersey No. 53 and is a 6-foot-2, 251-pound rookie from the University of North Carolina. He has competed on the practice squads of Detroit and Seattle. He spent the preseason with the Lions after entering the NFL with the club as a college free agent on May 10.

Meanwhile, Powell will take over the No. 35, which had previously been held by Dymonte Thomas before he went on injured reserve. Powell is a 6-foot-2, 211-pound fourth-year player with eight defensive tackles (one solo) and seven special-teams stops in 18 career games (one start) with Seattle (2016) and San Francisco (2017-18).

Powell also competed on the practice squads of Seattle (2017), San Francisco (2017-18) and the New York Jets (2018). The Broncos have some young talent at safety still, depending on what happens with Thomas' future but Powell gives the team depth.

The Broncos are always looking for ways to tweak and improve the roster. Depth has been a clear issue for this team in 2019 especially, though defensively, every time the Broncos have been faced with a personnel loss, the next man up has been more than equal to the opportunity, with the exception of perhaps CB Isaac Yiadom.
